Lawrence David Smith Sr. was born April 9, 1937, in Wintersville, Ohio, to the late Lawrence David and Margaret (Carney) Smith. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.

David, as he was more fondly known, was a veteran and served his country proudly in the United States Airforce. Upon returning home from his service, he worked and retired from TIMET in Toronto, Ohio. Later, he accepted a position with Heavenly Dreams Limousine service as a limo driver under Mr. Clarence West and he was known as “Smoove.” He attended Simpson United Methodist Church until it closed. After the closing of Simpson United Methodist Church, he started attending Finley United Methodist Church.

David had a very loving and loyal heart. Every morning he would join his fellow retired veterans for coffee at McDonald’s in Wintersville. He would graciously take time out of his day to transport his friends to church events, doctor’s visits and medical appointments, and help them with their shopping needs.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers William “Bill” Smith and Craig Smith; one nephew Terry Smith; and two nieces Gina Smith and DeAngela Richardson.

David leaves behind to mourn his passing, his children DeAngela, Lawrence David Jr., and John Kennedy Smith; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; his siblings Eugene (Kathy) Smith, Greta (Joe) Jackson, Fred Smith, Cynthia Richardson, and John (LaTonya) Smith; his first wife Lula Wilson; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the GREGORY- MARTIN CHAPEL, 255 S. 7th Street in Steubenville, Ohio. A final visitation will take place on Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of funeral service, 1 p.m. at Finley United Methodist Church, 958 Lincoln Avenue in Steubenville, Ohio. Dr. Ivy Jo Smith will deliver the eulogy.
