There was some excellent basketball action the week as teams were vying for seeding position in upcoming region tournaments, while local wrestlers were looking to earn berths in the state tournament next week.

Rudy Anderson, Savannah Country Day
The freshman had 23 points and hit the game-winning 3-pointer to lead the Hornets to a 58-56 win at Calvary Day. He is averaging 13.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
Stella Oelschig, Savannah Country Day
The senior guard had 23 points to lead SCD to a win at Calvary Day as the Hornets clinched the No. 1 seed for the Region 3-3A tournament.
Zayden Edwards, St. Andrew’s
The junior knocked down a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lead the Lions to a 51-50 win at Savannah High. He had 23 points and 11 rebounds in the game.
Caleb Jones, Benedictine
The junior had 28 points and five rebounds in a one-point loss to New Hampstead.
Camryn Baraniak, St. Vincent’s
The junior swimmer finished second in the 50-yard free and third in the 100 fly at the GHSA Class 1A-3A State Swim meet. She was also a member of the SVA team that won 200-yard medley relay and swam a leg on the 200-free relay team that finished second.
Brogan Flannigan, Calvary Day
The senior won a Class 3A Sectional crown at 175 pounds to become the first Calvary wrestler to ever win a sectional championship.
Ella Nelson, St. Vincent’s
The sophomore was second in the 100 breaststroke, fourth in the 200-yard IM and swam a leg on winning the 200-yard medley relay team and also with the 200-free that finished second.
Toland Daughtrey, New Hampstead
The senior had 28 points in a win over Burke County.
Ashton Wright, Bethesda
The senior had 41 points as the Blazers rolled to a win over First Presbyterian.
Moose Bringer, South Effingham
The junior 157-pounder beat Cade Morgan of Glynn Academy 13-0 to win a Class 6A Sectional title for the Mustangs. He avenged a 4-2 loss in the Region 2-6A finals from the week before.
Josh Quarterman, Johnson
The senior guard had 18 points, 12 rebounds and six assists as the Atom Smashers beat Groves to clinch the No. 1 seed as a host for the Region 3-3A tournament.
Carter Britt, The Habersham School
Britt scored a team-high 20 points to lead the Patriots to a 76-45 win over Alleluia for the region title.
Xander Argentinis, Benedictine
The senior won a Class 4A sectional title at 157 pounds for the Cadets. He is 38-17 on the season.
