When the statistic came out this week that more than half of Americans still can’t name a famous Asian American, we were perplexed. Has the rest of the country never heard of Mindy Kaling, Yo-Yo Ma, Tedy Bruschi, or Mayor Michelle Wu?

When it comes to local businesses owned by Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) and Asians, at least we know our readers could name their favorites, no problem. In 2022, readers shared more than 50 businesses and organizations in a guide to AANHPI- and Asian-owned businesses in Greater Boston.

Readers named Yume Wo Katare ramen shop in Cambridge, the Asian American Civic Association in Chinatown, and many other places that topped their list. During this AANHPI Heritage Month, we want to update the guide for 2024.

Tell us about your favorite AANHPI- or Asian-owned business or organization, and why you love it in the survey below or e-mail us at [email protected].

We’ll fact check each recommended business to confirm it is at least 51% Asian or AANHPI-owned. In addition, we’ll remove any that are no longer with us. (You’ll always be remembered, Tanám). Later this month, we’ll share the updated reader-recommended guide on Boston.com.
