The Erie County Health Department has announced that it has been awarded $4,334,730 in funding for the Erie County Community Health Center, the only comprehensive Federally Qualified Health Center in tri-county area of Erie, Huron and Ottawa counties, according to a news release.
The funding, from the Health Resources and Services Agency (HRSA) will continue the primary care, dental and mental health services offered by the Erie County Community Health Center and through the Health Center’s eight sites located throughout the tri-county region, the release said.
Federally Qualified Health Centers are a cornerstone of public health infrastructure, according to the release.
The purpose of the program is to improve the health of the nation’s underserved communities and populations by assuring continued access to comprehensive, culturally competent, high-quality primary health care services, the release said.
“We are thrilled to receive this grant, which will allow us to further support the health and well-being of all residents of Erie, Huron and Ottawa counties,” said Erie County Health Commissioner Pete Schade in the release. “We want to thank the hundreds of stakeholders that we collaborate every day as we provide primary, dental, and mental health care.
“It is our community that allows us to offer this support to our community.”
The Erie County Health Department/Erie County Community Health Center is one of 160 programs nationwide to be granted funding through this
Service Area Competition, according to the release.
The Health Center’s funding is for a three-year period, from June 2024 through May 2027, the release said.
The Health Resources and Services Agency’s Health Center Program supports domestic public or private, nonprofit community-based and patient-directed organizations that provide primary health care services to the Nation’s medically underserved populations.
