WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a significant issue that affects plenty of people. Several local ‘Raise Your Voice’ clubs in the area aim to encourage people to discuss the issue at hand.

“Anytime that you can get the conversation started surrounding mental health, that right there starts to reduce the stigma,” Haley Kerswill, Raise Your Voice Wausau West Advisor, said.

With the annual ‘Raise Your Voice Mental Health Awareness Walk’ at Wausau West High School, the organizers have expanded participation to three other area schools: Wausau East, D.C. Everest, and Marathon. They’re trading in their rivalries for a meaningful collaboration.

“If it was sports, something like that, we’d all be competing against each other,” ‘Raise Your Voice’ D.C. Everest Student President Braden Zoromski said. “But now, because we have this common cause. We’re coming together. We’re having fun together. I think it’s a really super important thing to have our community come together to fight this battle.”
