LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) – The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Laredo is inviting veterans to townhall meeting meant to educate them on some of the health benefits and services that are available.

All veterans who served in Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan or any other combat zones after 9/11 are eligible for VA Health Care.

Hugo Martinez, the public affairs officer for the VA Texas Valley Costal Bend Health Care System said the purpose is the meeting is to inform veterans and their family members about the benefits of the PACT Act.

“This new piece of the Pact Act opens eligibility for health care from the VA for many veterans that in the past were not eligible for health care from the Veterans’ Health Administration,” said Martinez. “The majority of the veterans that are here in the area are not actually enrolled for health care from the VA and many of them through his new legislation are eligible for this health care and we need to let them know about this so they can come and get their health care that they earned at our clinic here in Laredo.”

The townhall/enrollment event will take place at the University of Texas Education and Research located at 1937 Bustamante Street from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 pm.

The clinic is advising veterans to take their DD214 forms.
