Nine municipalities in Mahoning County are requesting assistance from Mahoning County Commissioners in hopes to receive funding for infrastructure improvement projects.

A total of $672,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding is available. Commissioners reviewed all of these proposals at their Thursday meeting and will select three out of nine total projects to award funding for.

The communities that submitted projects to be considered by commissioners, along with the proposed projects and their price tags are as follows:

– Austintown: North Wickliffe Neighborhood Sidewalk Improvements (CDBG Request: $200,000, Local Share: $17,000, Total Cost $217,000)

– Beaver Township: Woodworth Neighborhood Improvements (CDBG Request: $200,000, Local Share: $34,000, Total Cost: $234,000)

– Boardman: West Glen Resurfacing (CDBG Request: $93,133, Local Share: $10,348 Total Cost: $103,481)

– Campbell: Murray Avenue Improvements (CDBG Request: $200,000, Local Share: $68,667, Total Cost: $268,667)

– Craig Beach: Idlywild Avenue Storm Sewer Installation (CDBG Request: $200,000, Local Share: $19,0000, Total Cost: $219,000)

– Lowellville West Water Street Improvements (CDBG Request: $156,180, Local Share: $30,000, Total Cost: $186,180)

– Milton Township: Pickering Neighborhood Roadway Improvements (CDBG Request: $189,000, Local Share: $13,000, Total Cost: $202,000)

– Smith Township: East Alliance Neighborhood Road Resurfacing (CDBG Request: $200,000, Local Share: $40,664, Total Cost: $240,664)

– Springfield Township: Lipply Road Reconstruction (CDBG Request: $197,000, Local Share: $15,000, Total Cost: $212,000)

Commissioner Anthony Traficanti tells 21 News commissioners will be reviewing the requests on Thursday and should have a decision on which three projects will receive funding by early next week at the latest.
