Mayor TenHaken appoints Joe Kippley as next public health director

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The City of Sioux Falls introduced its new Public Health Director on Wednesday.

The city has seen a few changes in the position of Public Health Director in recent years. Former Public Health Director Jill Franken announced her retirement in April of 2021 and Dr. Charles Chima was appointed as the new Public Health Director that May, but he resigned in June of 2023. Since then, the City of Sioux Falls has gone without an official Public Health Director.

At the One Sioux Falls media briefing Wednesday, Mayor Paul Tenhaken announced that the city had found its new leader in public health.
