No more being banned: AMD introduces its new Anti Lag 2 technology | igor´sLAB

Must read

You may remember the big AMD “scandal” that made headlines among gamers. Because of Anti-Lag, anti-cheat systems raised the alarm and recognized it as positive. As a result, players were unintentionally banned from various games. But there were also some other problems for players. Now they are returning with Anti Lag 2 and want to offer a much better version.

So a lot has changed. In contrast to the first version of Anti Lag, Anti Lag 2 is no longer a driver-internal solution. This function will therefore be an in-game selection. This means that anti-cheat systems can no longer have a false positive detection and ban the player. But how does the whole anti-lag technology work?

This involves controlling the speed of the CPU to ensure that it adapts to the GPU, reducing the amount of CPU work that is queued up. This reduces response times from input to display, which should increase the responsiveness of games. Through this integration in the game, there is communication between the game code and the driver. The CPU pacing is controlled here and this should improve image synchronization. The latency should therefore be much lower and much better than the driver-internal solution.

Valve’s popular game Counter Strike 2 is the first game to benefit from this technology. Normally, the anti-lag version can be activated in the software, but as it will now be an in-game function, CS2 players will be the first to enjoy it. According to AMD, this should result in a better response time and that is a considerable difference.

The following technical specifications are required to use this technology:

  • AMD Radeon™ RX 5000 series desktop and mobile graphics and above.
  • AMD Ryzen™ 6000 series processors with Radeon™ graphics and above. (Excludes select AMD Ryzen™ 7000 series processors with AMD GCN graphics architecture)

We are excited to see how the new Anti Lag 2 technology will perform. This could play a decisive role in shooter games in particular. We are curious.
