Rochester, N.Y. – A mass bike ride to highlight the need for accelerated investments in safe bike infrastructure.

The “Ride for the Spine” event gathered a mass of bicyclists to ride and rally at City Hall in support of a “spine network” of connected bike routes that are accessible for cyclists of all abilities on Friday.

Hosted by Reconnect Rochester and the Black Girls Do Bike Rochester, the rally is asking for the city to build 8 miles of protected bike lanes and multiple high-comfort bike facilities.

“We’re seeking to expand options for people who don’t have, or want, a car,” said Rochester Mayor Malik Evans, in a statement. “Expanding our bicycle-friendly network is a key part of creating a safe and equitable transportation system.”
