ULLIN, Ill. (KFVS) – A local health department is expanding its Genetic Cancer Testing Program.
The Southern Seven Health Department announced a pilot program that started last year will soon be available throughout the entire state.
The screenings review a person’s DNA to see if they’re at risk of developing certain types of cancers.
Since rolling out the program, health officials say they’ve seen a positivity rate of 17 percent, which is seven percent higher than the national average.
Officials say the expansion of the program will happen over the next few months.
