TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Valeo’s Breakfast for Hope reminded the community about mental health awareness.

Stormont Vail Health presented the Breakfast for Hope, hosted by Valeo Behavioral Health Care, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday, May 3 at The Beacon, 420 SW 9th St. in Topeka, Kan.

The featured keynote speaker was Kendall Gammon, Former Chiefs Player and Current Chiefs Pre-Game Commentator on 101 The Fox. Gammon reminded people that we all see things from different perspectives and encouraged everyone to do something that makes a difference.

“This is not Kevin Bacon and six degrees of separation,” said Gammon. “This is one degree of separation and just being aware of it and understanding it is real even when it’s hard to understand at times I think is so very important. There were times when I was dark but I had a lot of support, but some people don’t have that support or they don’t know how to go about things.”

During the event, Valeo also honored 13′s Melissa Brunner with their Mental Health Awareness Warrior Award for her efforts supporting the organization and for WIBW’s Hear Me See Me campaign.
